Republican Controlled Senate Rejects Gun Control - Vote Democrats

The United States has been plagued by not one but almost 200 mass shootings this year alone so far. With this and the Orlando Shooting you would think getting gun control passed would be easy. Instead the Republican Controlled Senate has rejected four measures. Time to vote for Democrats.

AC Transit Oakland Puts Bus Stop At 30th Broadway Summit Bank Anyway

AC Transit Oakland Puts Bus Stop At 30th Broadway Summit Bank Anyway Wow. In an act of complete hubris, AC Transit and the City of Oakland have placed the controversial Broadway Bus Stop in front of Summit Bank. This done even as the bank has stated its displeasure in wanting it and Summit Bank customers like this vlogger have done so as well. There is not enough room for a bus stop at they point. And while its marked temporary anyone who knows this issue can see that AC Transit is just squatting. Meanwhile Spouts Market has a ton of sidewalk space for a bus stop. But the managers of the market have told people they don't want to have bus riders lounging on their furniture! Wow. And they call the bank racist! Bad stuff.

Kathryn Ruggiero Oakland Tech Teacher Seeks Affordable Housing, Has Sign

Kathryn Ruggiero is an Oakland Tech Teacher who was walking around Lake Merritt Farmers Market on Lake Park with a sign that, in effect, reads that she is an Oakland Teacher who is looking for housing that takes less than 50 percent of her monthly income to afford. Ms. Ruggiero (who lived in San Francisco but is being forced out of her place there) said that the best deal she has found so far is in East Oakland, and that is for $1,700 per month. Doing some math, that puts her monthly income at about $3,400. Katheryn is but one of many people who's income level is taxed by the jacked up rents in Oakland. She says she can afford something at the $1,200 range. If you have a good apartment deal send her an email here: Kathryn.Ruggiero@OSUD.org.

Oakland Raiders Las Vegas NFL Stadium Plan Hides Revenue From SNTIC - Part 2

As a follow up to my first video, the SNTIC document posts sources and uses for the Oakland Raiders Las Vegas Stadium only for for categories. The entry on page 4 only lists public funding, PSLs, NFL G4, Raiders Contribution, and Las Vegas Sands. But it does not list luxury suites or naming rights or parking revenues to total $1.4 billion. That is wrong. The back pages do not break out the total multiyear revenues for luxury boxes over a 30 or 40 year period. So we always has the same problem. Plus, there is no place where the estimates would be used to lower the $750 million public funding ask. In closing the SNTIC will not recommend $750 million. As I have said before they will recommend a stadium but not at that high a public price. I have also shared my stadium spreadsheet with the SNTIC as of today, as a way of providing some help. Stay tuned.

Oakland Officials Own The Coliseum So Should Have Tickets To Events

The Oakland Public Ethics Commission has elected to examine how tickets are used by Oakland Councilmembers. My suspicion is that one of the members of the commission is upset they didn't get tickets to a Warriors NBA playoffs game. I asked that question of the executive director of the organization but she did not answer it. Instead she pointed to their newly gained power as of 2014. Not good. The fact is that the City of Oakland and the County of Alameda own the Coliseum Complex. As far as I am concerned the elected officials should have all access passes! The officials got to where they are by hard work. Let them reap some benefit of that. I am sick and tired of some trying to squash ambition of others because they themselves are too scared to go out and reach and aspire to something bigger than themselves. I am also tired of people who don't want to be in politics or have respect for elected officials. Enough is enough.

Oakland Raiders Las Vegas NFL Stadium Plan Hides Revenue From SNTIC

The Oakland Raiders, Las Vegas Sands, and Majestic Realty are trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the Southern Nevada Tourism and Infrastructure Committee. And in their collective effort to get the group started by Governor Brian Sandoval to recommend to the Nevada Legislature to give them a $750 million bond issue based on future hotel tax revenue from a one percent increase, so far they’re doing a good job. According to documents on the website of the SNTIC, and from a presentation to the group by Las Vegas-based economic consultant Jeremy Aguero and specifically page 4 of the document called “Stadium Proposal: Review of Proposal, Update on Modeling Progress”, the sources side of “sources and uses” looks like this: Public Contribution: $750 million Net NFL PSLs (Face Value of $200 Million) $110 million NFL G4 Loan $200 million Raiders Contribution $100 million Sands Majestic Equity / Debt $240 million Total 1.4 billion Let’s compare that to the financing breakdown for Levi Stadium where the San Francisco 49ers play: Stadium Authority collects: $930 million Naming rights revenue percentage PSL revenue Luxury suite sales percentage Sponsorship revenue percentage 49ers Lease Ticket surcharge Event revenues percentage Parking revenues percentage NFL G4 Loan: $200 million City, County of Santa Clara combination of public fund sources $114 million Total $1.244 billion More:http://ift.tt/1YqJcRh

SNTIC : LVCC Expansion Recommendation On June 23rd Not Oakland Raiders Las Vegas NFL Stadium

SNTIC : LVCC Expansion Recommendation On June 23rd Not Oakland Raiders Las Vegas NFL Stadium The latest information on the website of the Southern Nevada Tourism and Infrastructure Committee (SNTIC) reports that the document recommending the expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center will be presented for “potential action” - note that no such stadium document exists as of this write and no similar action will be taken. Thus, news reports that the Oakland Raiders NFL stadium would be recommended over LVCC expansion are officially wrong. What will happen on June 23rd is that the Nevada Committee will review the document recommending that the LVCC be expanded and then hear the newest information from the stadium analysis work done by Jeremy Arguro. As I was told before by my well-placed source, the SNTIC will need two more meetings before it is ready to make a recommendation on the stadium. The May Meeting minutes say that the next two will be on July 11th and then on July 28th. Again, it's also important to remember that the LVCC Expansion planning process is far further along than that for the NFL Stadium – about five years ahead. The NFL Stadium talk just started this year – to expect a fast conclusion in mere months is just plain fantasy. The main problem in media coverage of this stadium issue is many reporters aren't well-versed in development issues. Thus, they don't understand how to read complex reports or who to call to get the right answers. Just talking to a “source” is not enough – the person could be a local bystander who claims to know more, or a person trying to spin the news in their favor. In development matters where approvals are paramount, its always important to make sure the documents follow what the sources say, and vice-versa. But for the few who do it right, and who know Las Vegas, the real picture of what the SNTIC can and will do is very different. It's not at all hard to see where all of this is really going: toward an eventual SNTIC recommendation to the governor for both the LVCC Expansion and the NFL Stadium, but with a much lower public contribution and a far greater private one. All signs point to one fact: Clark County's hotel tax increase plans can not comfortably afford a $750 million public contribution for an NFL Stadium and a $1.4 billion public contribution for LVCC Expansion. That is a lot to consider, and on top of all that there is this fact: we are in an election year and a number of seats in the Nevada legislature are up for grabs. It's hard to see the SNTIC asking the Nevada Legislature to approve anything close to what the Raiders and Las Vegas Sands are asking for, and I would think the politicians would want the whole deal delayed until 2017 – or at best put LVCC Expansion on for a special summer session and put off football until 2017. When that happens, the entire timetable for a Las Vegas NFL Stadium will be pushed back one year to 2021. That will take the Raiders outside their Coliseum Lease agreement time length of up to three years – the City of Oakland would be in the drivers seat to influence the Raiders future, but can improve their position just by continuing to work with the Raiders on a new stadium at the Coliseum. Stay tuned.

President Barack Obama Speech On Mass Shooting In Orlando

President Barack Obama Speech On Mass Shooting In Orlando President Obama's speech remarks came to me via The White House. They are below and since his speech is not yet on YouTube, I am reading them here for you. THE PRESIDENT: Today, as Americans, we grieve the brutal murder -- a horrific massacre -- of dozens of innocent people. We pray for their families, who are grasping for answers with broken hearts. We stand with the people of Orlando, who have endured a terrible attack on their city. Although it’s still early in the investigation, we know enough to say that this was an act of terror and an act of hate. And as Americans, we are united in grief, in outrage, and in resolve to defend our people. I just finished a meeting with FBI Director Comey and my homeland security and national security advisors. The FBI is on the scene and leading the investigation, in partnership with local law enforcement. I’ve directed that the full resources of the federal government be made available for this investigation. We are still learning all the facts. This is an open investigation. We’ve reached no definitive judgment on the precise motivations of the killer. The FBI is appropriately investigating this as an act of terrorism. And I’ve directed that we must spare no effort to determine what -- if any -- inspiration or association this killer may have had with terrorist groups. What is clear is that he was a person filled with hatred. Over the coming days, we’ll uncover why and how this happened, and we will go wherever the facts lead us. This morning I spoke with my good friend, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, and I conveyed the condolences of the entire American people. This could have been any one of our communities. So I told Mayor Dyer that whatever help he and the people of Orlando need -- they are going to get it. As a country, we will be there for the people of Orlando today, tomorrow and for all the days to come. We also express our profound gratitude to all the police and first responders who rushed into harm’s way. Their courage and professionalism saved lives, and kept the carnage from being even worse. It’s the kind of sacrifice that our law enforcement professionals make every single day for all of us, and we can never thank them enough. This is an especially heartbreaking day for all our friends -- our fellow Americans -- who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. The shooter targeted a nightclub where people came together to be with friends, to dance and to sing, and to live. The place where they were attacked is more than a nightclub -- it is a place of solidarity and empowerment where people have come together to raise awareness, to speak their minds, and to advocate for their civil rights. So this is a sobering reminder that attacks on any American -- regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation -- is an attack on all of us and on the fundamental values of equality and dignity that define us as a country. And no act of hate or terror will ever change who we are or the values that make us Americans. Today marks the most deadly shooting in American history. The shooter was apparently armed with a handgun and a powerful assault rifle. This massacre is therefore a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, or in a house of worship, or a movie theater, or in a nightclub. And we have to decide if that’s the kind of country we want to be. And to actively do nothing is a decision as well. In the coming hours and days, we’ll learn about the victims of this tragedy. Their names. Their faces. Who they were. The joy that they brought to families and to friends, and the difference that they made in this world. Say a prayer for them and say a prayer for their families -- that God give them the strength to bear the unbearable. And that He give us all the strength to be there for them, and the strength and courage to change. We need to demonstrate that we are defined more -- as a country -- by the way they lived their lives than by the hate of the man who took them from us. As we go together, we will draw inspiration from heroic and selfless acts -- friends who helped friends, took care of each other and saved lives. In the face of hate and violence, we will love one another. We will not give in to fear or turn against each other. Instead, we will stand united, as Americans, to protect our people, and defend our nation, and to take action against those who threaten us. May God bless the Americans we lost this morning. May He comfort their families. May God continue to watch over this country that we love. Thank you.

Muhammad Ali And Prince Passed Within 2 Months Of Each Other

Muhammad Ali And Prince Passed Within 2 Months Of Each Other Prince died April 21st of 2016, and now Muhammad Ali passed away tonight, June 3rd 2016. Two icons who had a major impact on American Culture have passed within two months of each other. And, as you can see, they met. Muhammad Ali RIP - He Was An American Hero, Not A Brash Black Man To Be Feared

What bothers me about the passing of Muhammad Ali, is that he's described as "confident" and this coded language of fear of the strong, straight, alpha black male is going to contaminate television media. They don't get it. For me, now 53, and Muhammad Ali is the reason my media brand is called "Zennie62" - the 60s were an incredible decade of change that's not fully understood today. Muhammad Ali spoke up for himself as a black man when blacks were being lynched, jailed, shot, and segregated on a daily basis. For a young black kid, that I was, Muhammad Ali was just doing what he thought was right. He was standing up for his civil rights. What Muhammad Ali did, and has done, should never been forgotten or diminished. If you want to celebrate Ali, don't call him brash - call him what he was and is: an American Hero.

Hey W. Kamau Bell, White And Asian Gentrifiers In Oakland Tend To Avoid Blacks Too

On W. Kamau Bell's show United Shades of America, he says to a Portland blogger who says he is a Gentrifier that when the man sees an older black person, he should stop and say hello. Well, one can ask white and Asian gentrifiers in Oakland to do the same thing! We have had the same problem in Oakland and Berkeley for the past five years! As you know.

Muhammad Ali Placed On Life Support - The Greatest

Muhammad Ali Placed On Life Support - The Greatest The sad news is that Muhammad Ali was placed on life support. The word is that Ali may not make it. I hope they are wrong. He is simply the greatest athlete ever. But also the greatest anti-war spokesperson ever. He talked against the Vietnam War, and did not go into The Draft. For me, Muhammad Ali was much more than boxing. He represented black self-determination and true American freedom.

Hillary Clinton Must Tell Her Story, Not Donald Trump's #DNC2016

Hillary Clinton Foreign Policy Speech Mentions Donald Trump So Message Is Lost The strategy of copying her opponent's style is not a one size fits all approach that works. Clinton needs to make sure people know what she is about and not play Donald Trump's game. He does that better than she.

Any Democratic Party Bloggers Going To The 2016 Convention?

Any Democratic Party Bloggers Going To The 2016 Convention? Are there any Democratic Party bloggers who are planning to go or have been credentialed to go to the 2016 Democratic National Convention? If so we need to connect and collaborate. The Democratic Party has not done anything to Marshall its media forces to date. I fear the very election threatened if we don't all pull together. Warriors Win NBA Finals Game 1 104-89 Over Cavs #NBAFinals

The Golden State Warriors won NBA Finals Game 1, 104-89 over the Cleveland Cavaliers at Oracle Arena in Oakland. The Stars Steph Curry and Klay Thompson had 8 points and 10 points respectively while the Warriors bench led all scoring. Shaun Livingston had 20 points to lead the team! The Cavs by contrast had Le Bron James, Kevin Love, and Kylie Irving as the top scorers and that was it save for Trey Thompson adding 10. The Cavs bench was not in the game. If the Cavs want to avoid being swept they have to shoot from long range and mid range and get their bench involved. Stay tuned.

Matthew Dellavedova hits Andrew Iguodala in the groin and in such a way that it looked flagrant. But then the Cleveland Cavaliers star got into the Golden State Warriors players face. It should have been a technical foul but it was called a foul.

Cavs vs Warriors Golden State Will Win NBA Finals In 6 Games #NBAFinals

The 2016 NBA Finals gets underway in minutes and I am picking the Golden State Warriors to win in six games. The reason is that the Warriors now understand how to win when they are weak, as they did against the OKC Thunder. The Cavaliers are what they were not last year: a team at full health. The Warriors, however, are a team that is allergic to losing. They came back from being down 3 games to 1 against OKC. Warriors will win.

Donald Trump - Democratic Party DNC Press Needs Bloggers #DemocraticConvention

Against Donald Trump Democrats . DNC Press, Needs its best bloggers! Everyone is talking and blogging about Donald Trump, and even Democrats - that's a bad thing. The noise about him is drowning out content about Democrats in down state races. Liberal bloggers can be gathered to help solve this problem. Trouble is the Democratic Party has not done this at all. This completely different from 2008, when The Democratic Party really pulled out the stops to bring bloggers together - even if it did not male as big as tent as it should have. In 2012, the effort was there, if a little less. But in 2016 the effort has not been there. The Democratic Party has done nothing to bring bloggers together, and long time bloggers like me have been denied press credentials! There are more conservative bloggers active than liberal ones - the good thing is they can't agree on Donald Trump. But what if they do? Then, we have a problem over at the Democratic Party. We can act now to stop this problem. Stay tuned.

Las Vegas Oakland Raiders NFL Stadium Proposal Economic Analysis Forgets Infrastructure Costs

Las Vegas Oakland Raiders NFL Stadium Proposal Economic Analysis Forgets Infrastructure Costs The Las Vegas Oakland Raiders Stadium Proposal that was presented at the April 28th 2016 meeting of the Southern Nevada Tourism and Infrastructure Committee was the subject of an economic analysis, the results of which were shown at the May 26th meeting of the SNTIC. Jeremy Aguero is the head of Applied Analysis of Las Vegas, the staff consultant to the SNTIC. His document, the link of which is shown here, looks at the proposal from the developer's perspective and shows (to no surprise) that if the $750 million subsidy the Raiders are asking for is lowered, the return on investment to the Raiders and to Las Vegas Sands and to Majestic Realty is less. Fine. But what's entirely missing from the analysis is any discussion of infrastructure costs at all. How much will it cost to modify streets and roads (not to mention sewers)? That is not even there. Moreover, the idea of a tax increment revenue district is such that the money will go to the developer but not for infrastructure. By contrast, Oakland already had the infrastructure costs and financing worked out. The Las Vegas proposal is not well done and completely less than half-baked. The Raiders should build a new stadium in Oakland. Stay tuned. Document: http://ift.tt/24k0Shi

Lake Chalet Oakland Dock Shown On ESPN For #NBAFinals

When ESPN was in Oakland for the NBA Finals in 2015, we still got a lot of visuals of San Francisco - much to the anger of many Oaklanders. This year, The NBA Finals are back, thanks to The Golden State Warriors, and ESPN is back. And so we get shots of Oakland and beautiful Lake Merritt from Lake Chalet restaurant at 1536 Lakeside Drive.

Bernie Sanders Clobbers Hillary Clinton In Google Search In California Before June 7th Primary

Bernie Sanders Clobbers Hillary Clinton In Google Search In California Before June 7th Primary According to Google Trends, Bernie Sanders is clobbering Hillary Clinton in Google search activity and just days before the California Democratic Primary, June 7th. In one map, about 85 percent of the counties in California searched more for information about Bernie Sanders than Hillary Clinton. And in my favorite measure, search intensity, Sanders beats Clinton by a two-to-one margin. If search is a predictor of elections, then Hillary Clinton is in trouble in California. This will be a huge test.
